Gerard Kingma Photography
Fine-art landscape photography by Dutch
photographer Gerard Kingma - Fotografie en workshops over het Groninger
landschap
Gerard Kingma's
photography is essentially about composition and framing, two often overlooked
tools of the craft. His photos make sense of the world by excluding unessential
elements (the more, the better), leaving in frame only the elements that add
meaning. These elements are held in place by a strong sense of color harmony.
The overall effect is that things are, and always will be, as they should be.
Although many of
the photos in this book were taken in places as far apart as Portugal, Germany
and the Czech Republic, Kingma usually finds his material close to his home in
the far north of the Netherlands. Here the farmland seems empty and unforgiving.
Trees are sparse, but in the lucid air of an early winter morning, the landscape
takes on an eerie beauty.
This selection
of medium and large-format analogue images will hopefully inspire all those who
wish to give their eyes and minds a rest. Analogue camera systems require
craftsmanship and patience. When the sun sets and the light changes, you must
work quickly and efficiently, yet never hurry. Time is on your side.
